Aphids: Why worry about them?

Now, aphids cause direct damage, they can affect plant growth, they can distort shoots, distort fruits, but they also cause indirect damage, namely that aphids feed on sap and are very greedy, so they take far more sap than they need and excrete the excess as honeydew. This honeydew, in warm weather, starts to drip onto the plants, and in very humid conditions, a black fungus, known as sooty mould, develops on this honeydew. As a result, plants end up completely dirty, entirely blackened, and this can seriously impair the plant’s functioning.
